Knowing the risk factors may help you take preventive measures to reduce your risk and to be more vigilant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Being a woman<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over 99% of cases occur in women<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Age<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Risk increases with age, with women over 50 years being the most susceptible<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Previous diagnosis of Breast Cancer<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a higher chance of developing another cancer, in the same or in the other breast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Family History<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Incidence of Breast Cancer increases if one or more family member has been diagnosed, on either the maternal or paternal side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Genetic mutations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Women who have inherited genetic changes in certain genes such as BRCA1 and BRCA2, are at a higher risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Breast Density<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Denser breasts have less fatty tissue. High breast density hinders the detection of Breast Cancer signs on a screening mammogram.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hormonal factors<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Menstruations before the age of 12 and menopause after the age of 55 prolong the exposure to hormones and hence increase the risk.<\/li><li>The risk is higher in women who had their first born after the age of 30 or for women who are nulliparous.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ionizing Radiation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Treatment with ionizing radiation, especially at puberty, increases the risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hormone replacement therapy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While prescribed to manage menopause symptoms, the estrogen content elevates the risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Obesity<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Obese postmenopausal women are at a higher risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Alcohol Consumption<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alcohol intake increases the risk of Breast Cancer.
