These challenges can complicate access to essential care, such as breast cancer screening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important not to forget that <strong>breast cancer can affect anyone<\/strong>, regardless of gender or sexual orientation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n  <section class=\"title-with-subtitle__container theme-block is-style-subtitle-big aligndefault \"\n    >\n\n\n    <div class=\"title-with-subtitle__innerblocks-container\">\n  <section class=\"title-with-subtitle theme-block alignfull is-style-heading-size-2 aligndefault has-text-align-left\"\n    >\n   <h2>              <span class=\"title-with-subtitle__subtitle\">\n          Who is        <\/span>\n      \n              at risk?            <\/h2>  <\/section>\n\n<\/div>\n\n  <\/section>\n\n\n\n<p>Breast cancer affects not only cisgender (someone whose gender identity aligns with the sex they were assigned at birth) women. In fact, it is important to consider:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Trans men, because not everyone chooses to undergo breast surgery.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A person who chooses breast surgery should be aware of the difference&nbsp; between breast reduction, which decreases the volume of the breasts, and total mastectomy, which completely removes the breast. Although total mastectomy better lowers the risk of breast cancer,&nbsp; this risk is never zero.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Trans women undergoing hormone replacement therapy, such as estrogen. This can increase the risk of breast cancer (his risk is higher if they take these hormones for at least five years).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns are-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n  <section class=\"title-with-subtitle__container theme-block is-style-subtitle-big aligncenter \"\n    >\n\n\n    <div class=\"title-with-subtitle__innerblocks-container\">\n  <section class=\"title-with-subtitle theme-block alignfull is-style-heading-size-2 aligndefault has-text-align-left\"\n    >\n   <h2>              <span class=\"title-with-subtitle__subtitle\">\n          Why undergo        <\/span>\n      \n              screening?            <\/h2>  <\/section>\n\n<\/div>\n\n  <\/section>\n\n\n\n<p>Quebecers can have free tests to detect breast cancer , including mammograms, if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>They are registered as a woman with the RAMQ<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They are 30 years of age or older, are at risk or have possible signs of breast cancer, <strong><em>OR<\/em><\/strong> they are aged 50 to 74 and have none of possible signs of breast cancer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Thus, breast cancer screening is based primarily on gender. This excludes many people from the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. That said, this process may be a difficult or sensitive one because of the <strong>gender dysphoria<\/strong> (a feeling of significant distress that arises when a person\u2019s gender identity doesn\u2019t align with the sex they were assigned at birth) experienced by some people. Don&#8217;t hesitate to consult resource people for help and support (see resources below).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong><strong>Talk to a healthcare professional<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Screening is <strong>free if a possible sign of breast cancer<\/strong> is detected. A mammogram must be prescribed by a doctor or specialist nurse practitioner. It is therefore useful to discuss the matter with a medical team that understands 2SLGBTQIA+ realities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n  <section class=\"title-with-subtitle__container theme-block is-style-subtitle-big aligndefault \"\n    >\n\n\n    <div class=\"title-with-subtitle__innerblocks-container\">\n  <section class=\"title-with-subtitle theme-block alignfull is-style-heading-size-2 aligndefault has-text-align-left\"\n    >\n   <h2>              <span class=\"title-with-subtitle__subtitle\">\n          A message for        <\/span>\n      \n              healthcare professionals            <\/h2>  <\/section>\n\n<\/div>\n\n  <\/section>\n\n\n\n<p>Inclusivity is not a luxury; it is a necessity.
